This study entitled “Ethanol Production from Waste Banana (Musa paradisiaca l.) Peelings” aims to produce an alternative way in producing energy. Banana chips, banana con hielo, banana cue and other Filipino delicacies made up of banana are some of our favorite foods. But after the consumption of the flesh, we are just throwing out the peelings as garbage. Our country today is facing two major problems, energy crisis and proper waste disposal. This study used waste banana peelings to produce amount of ethanol. Ethanol or ethyl alcohol, drinking alcohol or grain alcohol is popularly used as an alternative for engines. Ethanol is mainly produced by fermenting grain or farm waste and will be distilled afterwards. This study can be a great help to solve the stated problems. The researchers used waste banana peelings as source of ethanol. The banana peelings were collected after the consumption of its flesh. The peelings were then finely chopped and macerated. The peelings were left to ferment for about 5-7 days. There were two treatments used in this study. Treatment 1 is made up of extracted juice with macerated peelings and yeast. Treatment 2 is made up of extracted juice with macerated peelings and sugar. After seven days, the percent yield was determined for both treatments. The distillate was lit to show that there really is alcohol in the product. As the results show, Treatment 2 only produces ethanol.
Banana waste peelings can be an alternative source of ethanol which can be utilized as alternative source of fuel.
The Problem and it’s Background
Due to the modernization to our country, there were new things that are added in the basic necessities of an individual, one of this is fuel. Since fuel can be afford in a high price, some people afford fuel. To resolve this problem, we need to find abundant and renewable source of fuel that is low cost. The project entitled “ETHANOL PRODUCTION FROM WASTE BANANA (Musa paradisiaca l.) PEELINGS” can help to solve this problem. This project will give us knowledge on how to make ethanol fuel from banana peelings that is renewable, easy to make, eco-friendly and can be afford in a low price. The research wanted to produce Ethanol Fuel out of Banana Peelings. Since Banana is abundant here in our municipalities there will be a high number of peelings. The researchers wanted to know the affectivity of the banana peelings as Ethanol fuel. Objectives
This study aims to develop ethanol from waste banana (Musa paradisiaca l.) peelings and produce an alternative way in producing energy. 1. When you ferment banana peelings for one week, it can obtain desired like ethanol or ethyl alcohol. 2. It can produced desired alcohol after distillation.
3. It can help the environment for it is said in the introduction that the country today is facing two major problems, energy crisis and proper waste disposal.
As we expect the banana peelings will become mud like substance during fermentation and extracted juice with macerated peelings and yeast produce more ethanol than the extracted juice with macerated peelings and sugar after distillation. Scope and Limitations
This study use only waste banana peelings to produce amount of ethanol. Moreover, it only focused on comparing extracted juice with macerated peelings and yeast and the extracted juice with macerated peelings and sugar from which of them can produce ethanol. Significance of the study
Our country today is facing two major problems, energy crisis and proper waste disposal. This study...
