Technology has paved the way to a new and exciting life. Since technology has become such a major part of our modern day lives, there is much speculation on how fast we are actually accruing new technologies. According to Moore's Law, we double our technology every two years. This number has actually been updated to 18 months recently, and we can only expect that new to become smaller and smaller. (Greene, para. 1-6, 2011) In other words, we are learning more than ever! Out with the old, and in with the new. In many cases, technology moving forward makes for 'smaller' phones and computers, features go up, and our technological tools in the world become more involved. This is especially true in the world of business. Technology helps businesses to better reach their customers, organize records, and to establish an online presence. (Swanson, para. 5-11, 2012)

Businesses have benefited from the breakthrough of the technology age just as much as the common folk around the world, if not more. Business communications have only progressed since the Internet has evolved, and become more useful for a number of reasons. Before the Internet we had telephones and typewriters, which were indeed great tools, but eons behind where we are today. Now, we have e-commerce, m-commerce, and social networking. (Jacowski, para. 3-7, 2006) Sure some of these features are still used today, but there is a much higher chance that a business may send an email opposed to sending a fax. Computers come equipped with many different features. Instead of buying four different machines to do four different things, why not do it all in one place? That is why the computer overruns all and the internet continues to benefit and mold the world into a more interesting place. We have information with the simple click of a mouse. This is not only useful for everyday life, but in essence how businesses communicate. Businesses can benefit from internet features in a number of ways. The internet connects all, and acts as a portable 'hub' no matter where you are. Cloud storage allows a business woman to gather her information if she is away from the office. Another major tool available to businesses is Skype. Skype is a program which connects two computers via internet and visual aid. This gives you a face-to-face meeting with virtually anyone at anytime, anywhere! For businesses who work with many different countries, this aids in the communication between the two. Skype is a step up from a phone call and a more personalized way to communicate. (Microsoft, para. 1-8, 2014)

Technology has become so easy to communicate in a moment’s notice. A business can communicate new updates on their web sites or twitter it. With a program called “calling post” a company can pay a fee and program groups with phone numbers. If they need to get information out fast, they just make one call, and it will send out a call to everyone on that list at the same time. (Microsoft, para. 1-8, 2014) Although this is a cool feature, most companies usually opt for email in such instances. Because businesses have so much retained information, any help in organizing it is a plus. At my particular company, we combine multiple different IT Systems into one via online. This makes it possible to look up a customer's information if they have bought anything from us, over the entire country, in a store, or online. (Thinline Client, 2013)

As far as communication, I believe that most businesses are up to date with all of the many tools technology has to offer. However, there are many old-school companies out there that operate differently, are a bit behind the times, and let these great tools slip by them. It really is a matter of simply not knowing.
