CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION

A. Overview

The term technology came from the Greek word technologia, which means ‘the systematic treatment of an art’ from the Greek word technē+o, which means ‘art, skill’ and logia from the Greek word logos, which mean “word or speech,” meant in Greece a discourse on the arts or skill. It was used to represent a discussion of the functional arts only, and gradually these “arts” themselves came to be the object of the designation. According to some scientists, the term technology embraced a growing diversity of means, processes, and ideas in addition to tools and machines.

Technologies are mainly one of the most developed materials in the world which helps us humans in our daily works. Development of technologies occur when we often use them and finding out their new and fresh features of its uses for us. Its development somehow affects our way of living and interactions to our environment. With the increasing of scientific knowledge, there will be an increase also to the rate of technological development. Developing of technologies in different periods may help us to understand and know better about their importance.

Technology includes the management of the environment towards human needs such as food, shelter, communication, and health. The development of various technologies within the past years of human history has been affected and has affected the environment, human societies, and science.

The evolution of technology combines investigations of these aspects of technology with student’s projects that illustrate them in details. Students work in teams to gather a research project which focuses on one type of technology. Supporting materials have been given for the teacher, including a complete evaluation rubric, as well as help in managing projects and student’s teams and resources that cover project, specific and general areas of technology. Design suggestions of technology are also included in this kind of process.

New technologies or modernizations of existing ones are often beginning as attempts to solve specific problems.  Eventually, the technology was adapted to include other types of data that became widely used in the computer industry as well. Of course, innovations in technology depend on the technology available as well as creative ideas and the needs and wants of the society. As technology gets smaller and cheaper, it becomes possible to have devices with even more functions and more developed.

We, as designers of technologies, have our own partiality and assumption about children. Some of us may be parents of our own children, but all of us were once children ourselves with special memories of what we liked and didn’t like about the world. We may also have our own preconceived notions about learning theories and educational strategies.

B. Research Aims

This paper aims to:
1. discuss the development of technologies.
2. define the importance of technologies.
3. elaborate the growth of our technologies today.
4. explain the reasons on why it develops well.
5. explore the different periods in developing technologies. 6. show its causes.
7. show its effects.
8. show some people involved in development of technologies. 9. compare the differences of development in every period.
10. clarify the different uses of technologies around us.
11. trace the methods used in developing technologies.

C. Research Questions

The proponent aims to provide the answers to the following questions: 1. When did technologies start to develop?
2. How important are technologies?
3. How can you say that technologies today grow well?
4. What are the reasons of well developed technologies?
5. What are the important events in every period?
6. What are the good causes in development of technologies? And what are the bad causes in development of technologies? 7. What are the good effects in development of technologies? And what are the bad effects in development of...
