Positive Peer Pressure

Whenever you hear the word peer pressure every one immediately refers to the negative influences. Have you ever explored the possibilities of positive peer pressure happening in people’s lives today? There are several examples of peer pressure out there that are positive, experienced mainly by teenagers that go unnoticed. The big one that needs to be focused on is the influence of not smoking, doing drugs, and drinking alcohol. Then the two other examples that we are going to discuss are friends and relatives pushing you to be the best at anything and different groups/clubs that are inspirational to you no matter what your concern. As mentioned above, the biggest and probably most important peer pressure out there is the influence of using drugs, alcohol, and smoking. Positive peer pressure within field is having a close group of friends who are very understanding of your beliefs of using any kind of narcotics. Instead of pressuring you to take their offer on drinks or smokes they acknowledge your actions, respect them, and take up for you when you’re in situations as such. I have gone to “small gatherings” where there is alcohol and the use of various narcotics and have been pressured into trying some. I was by myself so I didn’t have a group of friends to go to and a stranger noticed, they spoke up against the person pressuring me and assisted me on getting him of my back. So there are people still out there that are civilized and classy! However when it comes to people who smoke and drink alcohol it catches up with them later on and they will be the ones striving for positive peer pressure. The types of positive peer pressure for those types of people involves being pushed away from the alcohol and drugs and forced to look at a life without them.
