Academic issues in Sports

Student Athletes should meet the minimum requirements for admission to a University while allowing a few exceptions to be accepted. Plain and simple, if a university wants to be a winning institution in Athletics, then the best players have to be part of the Institution one way or another.

Ivy League schools such as Yale, Harvard, and Princeton or never in contention for Athletic championships. They have a high focus on remaining strong as one of the elite institutions for higher learning. Their athletic department is not their priority. Other school however, has a different mentality.

Institutions who are excellent in academics such as the University of Florida, Ohio State University, University of Southern California, University of Virginia, Duke, University of Michigan and many more have exceled in their Athletic department. Part of the reason is their high efforts towards recruitment. These schools recruit some of the best athletes in the nation. It is no secret that not all of these students are on the same level as some of their peers academically.

Schools that want to win and contend for championships must make exceptions for certain students. Schools bring in athletes based on their ability to contribute to their athletic department, not academics. They are brought in to win and generate revenue for the program.
