In the economically depressed world, we live in today, the main factor when choosing a college is money. With all expenses considered, it is obvious that going to a two-year college is much cheaper than going to a university across the country. Most students enrolled in a community college live at home with their parents, and all they normally pay is tuition fees, which is inexpensive. Students at a four-year college on the contrary live on campuses, and have to pay for tuition, room and board per semester. The advantage of a community college is the cost, convenience, and instruction that cannot be match at a four-year college level.
The most obvious reason that students attend community college is for the financial advantage. Many colleges cost less than the the universities, the cost is about two thousand dollars each semester to attend full time. “Since most of the same financial aid, including Pell grants and Stafford loan, is available regardless of institution choice, students in the lowest income brackets can expect a larger financial aid refund from a community college than a university.”(Stafford) Attending community college gives students the time to prepare for the financial demands of a four-year university if they plan on transferring. By comparison a University is expensive in average the cost can triple that of a community college. Textbooks are generally more affordable at the community college.
Community colleges are very convenient, for example, Essex county college has a day care center on site that can be use for students who are parents. When it comes to student who plans working while attending school night classes are ideal, and community college is the best option for that since its offer far more night classes than other universities as well as more schedule options. Then again, a four-year university has a bigger class size the professor usually has less interaction with the students. The atmosphere is much more different...
